Department of Immigration & Citizenship (DIAC)
The Department of Immigration and Citizenship is part of Australia’s Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs Portfolio which has responsibility for:
- entry, stay and departure arrangements for non-citizens;
- border immigration control;
- arrangements for the settlement of migrants and humanitarian entrants, other than migrant child education;
- citizenship;
- ethnic affairs;
- multicultural affairs;
- Indigenous affairs and reconciliation

The NSW Department of Family & Community Services – Community Services is responsible for delivering services that promote the welfare of people in NSW. Specifically they are charged with meeting the protection and support needs of children and adolescents vulnerable to abuse and neglect, their families and communities, and to help support people with disabilities.
Department of Health & Ageing
The Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care promotes good health and ensures all Australians have access to key health services, including: aged and community care services, public health initiatives, Medicare and pharmaceutical benefits, hospital and health care funding, health services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, and emergency services for people in crisis.

Centrelink
Centrelink is an Australian Government agency delivering a range of services to the community. Centrelink offices provide the following services: all services formerly provided by DSS offices, as well as childcare and student assistance payments and services; registration and acceptance of all new applicants for income support and employment assistance; self-help job search facilities, including computer access to a national job vacancies database; referrals for employment assistance; and specialist labour market assistance services for disadvantaged groups, including Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders, sole parents, people with disabilities, migrants and young people.

Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS)
The Australian council of Social Service is the national peak council of the community welfare sector in Australia – the principal voice of low income and disadvantaged people in social and economic policy matters.
The Council of Social Services in New South Wales (NCOSS)
More than 800,000 people in New South Wales live in poverty. NCOSS works for them. NCOSS is the peak body for the social and community services sector in NSW, working towards achieving social justice in New South Wales.

Other Migrant Resource Centres (MRCs) and Migrant Service Agencies (MSAs)

Migrant Resource Centres (MRCs) and Migrant Service Agencies (MSAs) are funded by Department of Immigration & Citizenship to help with settlement issues such as how to find housing, join English-language classes, find child-care facilities, look for work and enroll children in schools. They provide basic information on health, employment, education and the law and can refer to Government services dealing with these matters. They also give useful information about Australian society, customs and institutions.
MRCs/MSAs have workers who speak languages other than English. They can also provide advice on other community organisations providing assistance on settlement issues. MRCs and MSAs are located in most capital cities and major centres.

Australia’s Culture and Recreation Portal
The Culture and Recreation Portal provides access to online services and information in the fields of culture and recreation, from all levels of government and the non-government sector from over 3,100 Australian websites.
Multicultural Neighbourhood Centre

Hunter Parents’ & Teachers’ Association of Community Language Schools – HPTACLS
The Hunter Parents and Teachers Association of Community Language Schools (HPTACLS) is an umbrella organisation which supports community language schools and promotes heritage language maintenance. HPTACLS provides advice on establishing new schools, applying for funding and professional development for teachers.
